Dear Doug, Run away. Fast. As fast as your feet will carry you. The lack of close up pictures is to keep you from seeing the obviously indochinAsian touches. Anytime you see the front wheel that far off of the ground, move on to the next closest auction. And remember, buying sight unseen and not from a shop or somebody that we all know is generally a bad idea. Pretend it is teenage suicide and don't do it. your pal who is strangely tired of selling new engines to the unlucky folks who purchase vietnamese death traps, Chelsea :: : : ::: ::: : :: :: : :: ::: Scomo (Scooters O Mail Order) toll free 877 SCOOT 25 not so toll free 804 230 1000 fax 804 230 1015 chelsea@scomo.net Shop online 24 hours a day! http://www.scomo.net Check out Scomo's current auctions without going thru a bunch of emo t-shirts! http://www.scomo.net/current_auctions.php

LAST EDITED ON Sep-01-04 AT 11:02 PM (EDT) Hey,Ok, I am still a relative newbie but here it goes signs it may be an asian import therefore of suspected quality seller doesn't say where it's originally from oversized stand making the scoot pop a wheelie at 0 mph standard asian two tone paint job standard asian chrome accesorie package I don't like user ID kept private auctions unless I know the seller. user ID kept private just means others can't tell you that you may bidding on a POS. This may be fine but if it's from asia, you really don't know.

I hate to say it but it looks Southeast Asian resto to me... Floormats.... wrong for bike Wings on Legshield... Two tone typical style of cheap southeast asian quicky restore.... And I am certian I am missing some stuff that others may see and point out. Just gets that bad feeling... If you can check it out I certainly would. It could be a shiney cover over a death trap. If you cannot and do not know then just let it pass on by. |

For some reason it drives me nuts that they always add a glove box to a VBB. Hate those paint jobs too. -Glenn |

What's with the sky-high stands? How far from the ground should the front tire be when on the center stand?

it should be just barely touching, or just above touching (1/2 inch), depending on which model.....adds 'some' stability while on the stand.... John F. |

14. "Asian Stands"
In response to message #13
| |
Ok I'm confused then. Are the stands on the Asian imports simply manufactured over there and not to Vespa original standards? Why do they make the stands higher for the Asian imports? Aren't they still "Vespas" even though from Asia? (I understand that the restored ones may use cheaper parts in engines and such). Can you even get an original Vespa stand of the appropriate height? How would you know when ordering one if the stand is going to be of the right height or too high?

>Can you even get an original Vespa stand of the appropriate >height? How would you know when ordering one if the stand >is going to be of the right height or too high? most often, the stand has been moved back because the original bolt holds are too rusty. That'll do it. Add the wrong stand and you have the "rocket launcher" look. Becky p.s. I own an asian resto (I won it) and it apparently is fairly okay. But I still like my P200 better.

Actually, if you put a 10" stand on a VBB in the original holes, it becomes a rocket ship even if you do the 10" conversion. I just did it with mine and had to cut about an inch off each side of the stand. I didn't want anyone to think I had an Asian restoration when I did all the work myself. matt |

LAST EDITED ON Sep-01-04 AT 11:49 PM (EDT) Southeast Asia or India rebuild. That horrible paint scheme is the first clue. Next check the pillion seat platform (thin as a tin can), wings, stand too tall, cheezy spinners on the rim hubs. If you want to order a Viet bike, there is only one place to go without getting ripped off. ScootRS.

That's what the folks here are good for. Don't feel bad that they are so abhorently disgutsted by and obviously not recommending you purchase that scooter. They look pretty, sure. So does a tuna lure right before... These folks know what they're talking about (most of the time) and this is theplace to be for answers. At one time or another one of those Asian death-bikes looked like the perfect bike to a good number of new scooterists. The more familiar you become with the scene, the better you will get at picking out a scam, finding a deal, and knowing when to give your money away. It REALLY hurts to throw down a stack on a POS bike. No one here wants to see anyone do that. Good luck. Parker "Flying saucer take me away, give me your daughter." T. Rex |
