"Lefty JL Pipe cracked at bracket"

   Yep.

Fixable? The crack is where the bottom of the bracket that's welded to the pipe meets the pipe itself. That weld has gone to shit and opened a little slit into the pipe itself so any welding job will have to involve welding the pipe, as well as re-attaching the bracket.

It's the stainless pipe BTW.

Hell no. I can't afford another one right now so I'm really hoping this is fixable.

My one thought was this:

grind off all the welds so the pipe is smooth, have the small crack in the pipe itself welded, then weld a curved bracket to the pipe itself, then re-weld the mounting bracket to that curved piece.

Why JL didn't beef up this area is beyond my comprehension.

I've got a pile of used JL pipes... I can get rid of at least one.. but not cheap....

I've got two JL left hands (one's seen a lot of use, one's new with a cracked bracket). And I also have a ceramic coated JL right hand exhaust in new condition.

prolly $250 and up.

I also have a Sito PLus I'm not doing anything with $70 for that one.. it's in almost new condition.

email me if you want one

yeah, it's fixable. you'll need to tig weld it.
you *might* be able to have it brazed up with a good rod, but stainless is a pain.

find a good fab. shop or welding shop or a hotrod shop and have it done. figure a few bux and 12pack.

also, i'd run a plate over the area to reinforce it.

when you reinstall it, use rubber buffers instead of the hard nylon bushings they supply. also, don't tighten it up too tight.

best,
-greasy

I've welded up stainless bunhes of times it's a piece of cake with a mig welder.

I am super tired of the bracket and sheet metal breaking on me.. it's happened to me about three times so far on brand new pipes. The bracket design does need to be improved. .. I'm sick of it.. I'm gonna open up a can of woop ass on it now...

I've been thinking of redesigning the connection with a u bolt instead of welding to the pipe.. then just tack weld the u bolt to the pipe.. that way you'll have something beefier than sheet metal to hold it all together.

Hey Garett;
If you can find a u bolt from an auto shop that's big enough.. bring it along.. or we can go to salvo auto here in reisterstown and figure it out...

   I have the solution!

-take the Fung Wa bus to Chinatown NYC
-walk across the Manhattan Bridge into Brooklyn
- walk through the Farragut Housing projects and down Flushing Ave
-make a right onto Waverly Ave.
- #16 unmarked grey door

I'll buy you a 40 and some bubble gum from the gas station.
